Up Up and Away

children's illustration of orange hot air balloon

I’ve been pushing myself to finish up the last few pieces of new art before I go into my “print and matte” phase of the Park Ave Fest preparations. This Hot Air Balloon collage is one of these recent illustrations.

I’ve built it on a cradled wood panel—a new type of surface for me. I didn’t mind it, but I still prefer to paint on paper. I like how the paper grabs hold of the pigment and I can layer color more easily. However, using a wood panel is great for these watercolor collages. No frame is necessary and it’s a good sturdy surface to layer paper on paper. The Brooklyn Bunny collage was also constructed on a cradled wood panel.

I’ll be offering this hot air balloon print in a few sizes: 8″x8″ and 10″x10″, so it will fit 12″x12″ or 14″x14″square frames respectively. As always, the visitors to my Park Ave Fest booth will have first dips on this print, but then it will be for sale in my Etsy shoppe. I hope you can stop by!

I’m down to my last 2 weeks of pulling all my art and booth together. It’s GO TIME!

Have you ever been in a hot air balloon?
