Caldecott Anticipation

Each year the American Library Association hands out the top awards in children’s publishing during the mid winter conference. This Monday in the early hours of the morning, well if you count 7:45am, as the early hours, the awards will be announced!  Among the top awards is the Caldecott Medal, celebrating the best of children’s illustration in 2011. I am excited to hear the picks and even the books this year can sit still on the shelves. See what I mean:

One of the books under consideration for the Caldecott is Little White Rabbit by Kevin Henkes. It’s a very sweet book about a rabbit…wait a minute, let’s just ask Kevin himself about the book:

Little White Rabbit is just adorable! I love how you hop right along with him through out the book. Like Kevin said, this book is the completed package of a strong story and equally strong images. It has my vote for this year’s Caldecott award. Good luck Little White Rabbit!
