A Holiday Happenstance

{Love the simple use of color on the cover!}

While strolling through Barnes & Noble yesterday evening I walked into the YA department and I came across 2 books that I worked on last year. I designed the interior layouts. GRACEFULLY GRAYSON is published by Disney-Hyperion and is about finding your true self.

{I spotted another book of mine!}

Then when I turned a corner, I saw another book I recognized—DEFY. This one is published by Scholastic, Inc. It’s a fantasy adventure about a girl who has to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king’s army. Add in an evil wizard and you have yourself a full on fantasy read!

For any Harry Potter fans out there, check out the redesign of the books by a senior college student. They are amazing (and they even glow in the dark!).

And with that book news, I am going to be taking a break from blogging until the start of the new year. These upcoming weeks are a time for rest and reflection and setting my goals for 2015. Thank you for all your continued support and love with AbbyDora Design.

I want to wish you a very HAPPY rest of the 2014 and a WONDERFUL and BRIGHT start to 2015!

Holiday Penguins and RIT Art Fair

Holiday Penguins
{revamped Holiday Penguin illustration}

D and I recently got our Christmas tree and I was inspired to revise my original Penguin illustration of my 3 friends decorating their own Xmas tree. I’ve been working alot lately on digital painting with my design and teaching, so I’ve applied these skills to my own artwork. The base is still my watercolor painting, but I’ve added more color washes and a great little digital sketch line. I really LOVE the feel! Maybe this is my new working method for the new year? Ohhh, it’s exciting.

In other news…..the RIT Winter Craft & Art Fair is happening this FRIDAY DECEMBER 12th in the SAU on RIT’s campus from 9am-4pm. I hope that if you are in the area, you’ll stop by my table and say hello! I’ll have matted children’s artwork and holiday cards. I’ll also have a special sale happening too, but you’re gonna have to come by my table to find out what!

How’s your holiday month going?

{Will you participate in this challenge?}

Penguin Random House is really into the holiday giving back spirit! They have launched a wonderful new social media campaign called #GiveaBook. This campaign promotes reading and books as holiday gifts, and also serves as an avenue to donate books to U.S. children in need with the help of Save the Children.

It’s so easy to join the movement too! Here’s how it works: From now until December 24th, each time the hashtag: #GiveaBook is used on Facebook and Twitter Penguin Random House will Donate a book to Save the Children for up to 25,000 times! WOW! What a great gift!
