Happy New Year

custom party streamer

What a year! With 2011 coming to a close we’re taking a moment to reflect on what a year its been. This was a year of amazing firsts. It was our first year of operation, the launch of our website and Etsy store, the first time working with corporate clients as a business to business, the first time participating in local Art Festivals, and receiving our first custom children’s illustration orders. It has truly been a breath-taking year.

Thank you to all who helped make this first year of business such a positive one. We promise you that the momentum is only picking up and 2012 is going to be even better! New artwork and paper goods are in the works and we’ll be expanding our presence in local art festivals. Keep your eyes out for AbbyDora Design!

Wishing you a wonderful 2012!

Happy Chanukah

modern eight candles card

Our home is a blend of Christmas and Chanukah which we call, “Christmukah”.
I added a few touches of blue and gold to my own Christmukah celebration with these garlands around the house:

Tonight we will celebrate the start of Chanukah with latkas and watching the candles burn low on our menorah on the mantle, next to our Charlie Brown Christmas Tree.
I love the holidays!

Say hello to my recent commissioned artwork: The Superhero Karate Girl!
She’s fast, smart, and never looses her cool. With her trusty side kick she’s busy saving the world from cooked mushy peas and mountains of math word problems.

Prints of the Superhero Karate Girl are available at our Etsy Shop. If you are interested in requesting your own custom artwork or custom print, please send me an email describing your own idea. I look forward to hearing from you!

Stripe Pok-a-Dot Party

black white handmade

My whimsical handmade stripes and dots paper garlands and ornaments are so fun that they gave me inspiration for another baking project.

abbydora custom ornaments

I love the combination of stripes and dots. The black and white color palette adds the right amount of sophistication too. If I was to host a stripes and pok-a-dot party, I would want a dessert to match. Brilliant! My first thought was chocolate. So I baked decadent chocolate brownies and covered them with vanilla frosting. The fun part comes next! I decorated the tops of the brownies with black decorating gel into stripes and pok-a-dots.

FYI: save time and stress and buy black decorating gel instead of making black from frosting. You’ll be a much happier baker. Ta-da! Amazingly cute brownies to compliment your party’s theme.
